the *JOY* alert: December 20

Mark woke up around 3:00 to take Aleja and Gabi to the airport.
They didn't have a ticket for today
but hoped they could get on a flight anyway.
They planned to wait it out all day at the airport.

When I woke up, I texted Aleja to see how it was going.
Nothing, they said.
Impossible to get a flight out today.

So before anyone here was awake, I ran out to the airport to pick up two very disappointed girls and take them home to sleep.

The rest of the day was helping Sam get ready
for his trip, cleaning our house, delivering a couple meals to the girls (they had emptied their refrigerator thinking they wouldn't be there), and dropping kids off here and there at friends (Jack to Raph's and Joel there a bit later) and taking Madeleine home late at night.

Walid finally brought the backpack that Sam needed for his trip.
Sam discovered some old tea bags in the little top pocket.
I think they had rotted or mildewed.
We worked and worked to get that terrible smell out of his bag.
I think that stink will mark this day forever in my memory

Mad was here the whole day.

I don't remember being very joyful today.
I think I was mostly bummed.
Sad that Sam is leaving.
And a little irritated at some minor things that hopefully will be forgotten soon.

My joy today was that we can close the book on some days
and that a new day awaits us.
