Happy Birthday, Manki!

++Reposting this from last year, because I don't think it even got read by the birthday boy!

Thanks for being my brother all these 41 years!

Here are some of my favorite memories from the earlier years:

+ When one of us would do something bad to the other (usually you to me) and the victim would call out, "Mom!" and when she'd answer we'd just say, "I love you!" and watch the perpetrator let out a sigh.

+"Getting our money's worth"  by flipping the lights on and off, putting down the tray table a billion times, opening and shutting the shade on plane rides across the ocean

+Playing with our dogs out in the yard after supper

+Trying to make it look like we were walking down into the basement when there was no basement (I've perfected this for S,J, and J)

+Butchering pidgin in the best way possible and laughing at how clever we were

+And in the same vein...singing off-key on purpose

+Saturday afternoons "uncollating"  SS papers

+Riding our red, white, and blue banana bikes in the cul-de-sac across the street for hours and hours

+baking cookies at Christmas and singing parts of the Messiah in the most rousing, exaggerated voices and then seeing an unfamiliar figure in the doorway

+discus practice in the soccer field with our super-great natural discus (where is that btw?)

+doing stuff with you at CC when you weren't napping (I mean, avoiding your sad life).

+Sunday afternoons at the hospital with Kaupa and Umba (were you witnessing or skipping church?)

+Remember that car we made out of cardboard?  We were not 3 and 6, I'll say that much!

+Then there was that time you got a high fever and were brain damaged...oh wait, I wasn't supposed to tell you that.

You are all right, Dan.  And I'm happy to call you Little Brother! I love you!
