Day 8: From Dayton, OH to Indianapolis, IN

Gaël, Sam, and I got up before the others and walked over to the track near Dan and Gwen's house.  We ran intervals together (well, not together, exactly...the boys left me in the dust after the first sprint) and then we did some circuit training.  This was NOT Sam's proudest moment, working out with his mom.

We left Dan and Gwen's around noon and made the quick 2-hour trip.  The kids' road-trip contest was to end when we arrived in Indy so there was a little of a rush (and maybe some cheating!) there at the end.

Included in the competition were...
Random Challenges (slightly varied for each kid) like...

Write a postcard to your family and give to Jill to mail...5 points

Get someone (besides the people in this car) to say “Texas” and make sure to have at least one witness from our group...10 points

Trip and fall “accidentally” at a gas station or restaurant and make sure to have at least one witness from our group...15 points

Go into a gas station and say to someone who works there, “I sure am happy to be American.”...20 points

Do 20 jumping jacks outside sometimes during the trip...10 points

Buy someone in the car something that cost $1.00 or more and surprise them with it...10 points

Take a picture of yourself with 3 random people...20 points

Get the signature of a truck driver...30 points

Sing a song your mom sang to you when you were little to everyone in the car...15 points

Stand and look up in the sky....5 points for each person that stops and looks too

Various riddles that everyone in the car raced to be the first to figure out (Gaël and Hannah were the best at these)

Tongue twisters to memorize and recite

Logic Puzzles to solve together in groups

Limmerick writing.  (our favorite is Sam's)
There's a boy named Jack in the van
To hold it in is his only plan
With sweat on his brow
He needs to go NOW
So in shame, he pees in a can

Sketches of another person in the van

A record of different states' license plates (one of our party found 36 states)

And questions to answer about the short story, The Lottery (that everyone but me agreed was a terrible story and should not have been chosen or read!)

Here are the results of our 2012 Road Trip Competition.
