Best of...

My friend, Kari, had a post yesterday that I loved.  She gave me permission to copy, and I think it might  need to be a regular "column" here, because it's such a fun way to put a bunch of good things together in one place.

Best dessert we made recently
These baked donuts.  I used 1/2 white flour, 1/2 wheat.  If you decide to try these, the thing to remember is, they are considerably more tasty when eaten directly from the oven, so plan accordingly.
Best part of March in Quebec
Gorgeous sunsets that can be seen from our front door.  The trees are bare, the snow is gray and brown, the grass is soggy and smooshed, so the best place to look for beauty is on the horizon, and the best time to look is around 7:00 p.m.
Best meal I've made recently
This Black Bean Quinoa Chili.  Unreal, I'm telling you.  I've posted the recipe here where you might find some other new tasty recipes to try.
Best story I've read in a very long time
I've talked about Donald Miller's book A Million Miles in a Thousand Years and how much I enjoyed it.  Now I'm really being challenged by his blog.  Recently he posted this, which is an incredible and powerful story.  You won't read it dry-eyed, I'm sure.

Best and cutest little-kid answer
Today Joel had a little friend over to play for a couple hours.  I said, "Pierre-Olivier, sais-tu quand tu auras 4 ans (do you know when you are going to be four)?"  He said, "Quand ça sera ma fête (when it`s my birthday)."

Best cartoon
Best peaceful government demonstration
This took place in Quebec City.  The 2010-11 budget was presented yesterday.  In front of the parliament building, some 100 pair of pants (with the pockets turned out) were planted in the grass.  And 93.3 FM encouraged people who are sick of government spending to walk around all day yesterday with their pockets pulled out.  Some people even attached their pants to the trunk of their cars, pockets out.  Unfortunately, it didn't seem to have an effect on the results.  But what else is new?
