Show and Tell

Joel, a little creeped out by a snake found during our church's community project.

I hope you won't have the same reaction to my sharing what I like with you. I've been told that I maybe do this too much--talk up stuff that I love. I can't help it. Maybe it's because I could never think of anything that great for show and tell when I was a kid. Maybe it's because I was a teacher. Maybe I'm just a little too excitable. Maybe there is just way too much amazing, fun, cool material out there. Anyway...here's what I've got this time.

:: Mark introduced me to Pete Murray this week. This song is just fun (especially the end--oh, those kids' voices!). And I really like this one too.

:: I've been listening to This American Life for about 6 months now. It's so interesting, full of great stories. And I love that you can listen over and over to a whole big long list of archives. If you've never listened, and want to know where to start, let me know and I'll tell you the best ones (according to me). My dad used to listen to Paul Harvey and The Rest of the Story on the radio all the time. I remind myself of him!

:: I put up a new recipe yesterday. COOKIES!! Eat 'em. They're good for you!

:: You have got to read this article that I saw yesterday. I'm not in agreement with the government telling people they can't name their kids what they want, but I've heard some names recently that should have been questioned, for sure. What about all these Hollywood moms giving their babies crazy names?? When I was a kid in PNG we heard some funny ones. One time my mom taught an elementary religious instruction class where there were boys named Muli (lemon) and Mama.

:: A few months ago I saw The Mystery of Marriage on Michael Card's book list. He said it was the best book on marriage that he's found. We ordered it, have read most of it together, and are in agreement with Mr. Card. It is a truly beautiful book. I think every couple should have it.

:: A good friend sent me this very cool video. You just have to watch it to see why it's so fabulous.

:: I'm realizing that Mark is pretty good at Show and Tell too. He recommended this book to me and I listened to it on my solo birthday trip to Syracuse. And now I recommend it to you. It's very powerful and sheds a lot of light on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. It's not a "happy" story, but an important and very moving one.

I've got more, but I'll stop. Let me know if you agree with my assessments on any of this. I like feedback as much as I love sharing!!
